STS@ED Science and Technology Studies at Edinburgh
The University of Edinburgh is one of the leading UK centres for research into the social character as well as the social and economic implications of science and technology. STS@ED was founded in 1996 as multi-disciplinary research and training network that brings together various established research units and departments across the Faculty of Social Sciences, including: the Research Centre for Social Sciences, (which coordinates the network); the Science Studies Unit and the Department of Sociology; the Institute for Japanese European Technology Studies (JETS), the Technology Management and Policy Programme (TechMaPP) and other research on the Management of Innovation and Technology in the Department of Business Studies.
SPRU Science Policy Research Unit, University of Sussex
The Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex has been carrying out world-class research and teaching on issues relating to scientific discovery and technical change since 1966. The Unit's work is independent, multidisciplinary and international in scope. It is concerned with the challenges that confront decision makers in government, industry and international agencies, and with the public debate that surrounds these challenges.
SATSU Science Technology and Studies Unit, Anglia Polytechnic University.
The Unit was established in 1988 and conducts research in three broad areas: the sociological analysis of science and technology policy, the cultural dynamics of technological change especially concerning technology acquistion, and women and reproductive technologies in the health sector.
PREST , University of Manchester
PREST is an institute of the University of Manchester, located in the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. PREST is also a member of the Manchester Federal School of Business and Management. Our objectives are to provide impartial and authoritative analysis and information to decision makers concerned with the economic, political and social implications of science and technology. PREST undertakes research and advisory work on various aspects of science and technology policy and strategy, and provides research training through postgraduate degrees and topic-oriented courses.
